On October 11, 2013, three employees from Harmony Animal Hospital, Dr Ryan Epple, Chris Clymer, and Jonathan Laguna, embarked on a trip to the Zuni nation in Zuni, New Mexico, to join the group from NAVS (native American veterinary services...: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-LiUEyw_8CA) for the shared ideal of providing castration services to reduce the stray animal population of communities in need. Our three days of commitment to this spay/neuter clinic helped result in more than 120 animals who will no longer contribute to the stray animal population through surgical sterilization. Additionally, several hundred more were vaccinated against infectious diseases such as Parvovirus and Rabies to help ensure that the Zuni pets are a healthier population as well. While we undertook this venture on a completely volunteer basis as a way to give back to the profession from which we derive a great deal of satisfaction, its success was made possible as well through the generous support of Zoetis Animal Health for donating injectable anesthesia, vaccines, anti-inflammatories, and suture material, Henry Schein Animal Health and Novartis Animal Health for their donations of suture material, and the numerous volunteers from other veterinary hospitals such as Dr Geoff Wright of Wright’s Veterinary Hospital in Bethlehem, Pennsylvania, Kathy and Glenn Nehoda from Easton Animal Hospital, Dr Kay Larkin of Larkins Veterinary Clinic, and other general practitioners and volunteers from numerous veterinary practices.
